January 6, 2004
Meeting called to order at 8:35.
All Athletic Directors present.
- Winter Sports
A./B. Basketball games are played on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Opposite
sites.Send pre-season forms to Mark Wudel / Bob Fernandez for power rating.
C. Reviewed wrestling by-law changes.
- Emergency item for January 15, 2004.
- Wrestlers are not eligible to wrestle against the Japanese
traveling team. Need prior sanction by State and Section
CIF.
- Spring Sports
- Tennis at Davis - possibility of no facility available due to
construction. David will contact each school individually regarding
competion site.
- Diving at Davis will be at Arroyo Pool. Diving will be
after swimming because the lane ropes will need to be removed.
- Pre-season badminton meeting is January 17 at Solano college
1:00. Becky Lum will give in-service after meeting.
- Vintage/Napa girls soccer play at Raiders Field.
- Boys tennis adjusted schedule to accommodate Section play-off
MEL League Th/Fr and Section following Th/Fr. All at Vintage.
- Fall Sports - Games Needed
- Vintage 3 rd game
- Davis 4 th game
- Napa 2 nd and 4 th games
- Officials Association
- Reviewed: Decorum, Removal, Rain-out, Location
- Meeting with coaches
- February 11 with Baseball coaches
- February 18 with Softball coaches

- Equipment
- Helmet cleanliness: Clean and disinfect regularly. Store
in a mesh bag not a solid bag.
- Baseball - Starting in 2006, legal bats will have to have
imprinted stamp.
- Softball - all bats must meet ASA performance standard.
- Patch Standardization
- Need number to be stable
- Possible suggestion
- Award patch for First team selection.
- Award certificate for 2 nd team selection.
- Agenda item for Board of Managers.
- Other
- Requesting Additional Patches
- Golf -- Jay Dahl expressed the concern that golf was
awarded patches for only the exact number on a team. All other sports
have additional patches beyond the team number. Golf coaches are requesting
that the patch number be raised to 8. Gail McNally motioned that golf
patches be increased to 8. Second by Jay Dahl. Passed
unanimously.
- Football - After a lengthy discussion, Fred Jones motioned
that "Football add a place kicker and punter to All League list increasing
the patches to 28." Second by David Blackwell. Passed
unamiously.
- Maryanne Christoffersen recommends that MEL consider changing
the League tennis format from 4 - 3 to 6 - 3 to align with the Section. This
will be an agenda item for Board of Managers.
- Reminder that an administrator or designee must be at all boys
and girls basketball games. The visiting administrator should
be sure the home administrator know where to find him/her.
